Patara harbor, which is 400 meters wide and 1600 meters deep, starts to fill with sand and boats have difficulty in docking, causing Patara to lose its importance. Sand blown by the wind fills the harbor over time and covers the city to a large extent. Some of the ruins that can be seen in the city today were unearthed under the sands in a well-preserved condition.

It is understood from the ruins of the station that the Patara radio telegraph station, which served for 7 years as a communication network during the Ottoman Empire, was severely damaged during the bombardment of the Italian navy in 1911 during the Ottoman-Italian war.
